There are different types of Affirming Psychotherapy. There is Identity Affirming Therapy, Gender Affirming Therapy, Neuro Divergent or ND Affirming Therapy. As a whole, the practice of any affirming therapy is rooted in meeting a client where they are. The goal of both therapist and client is acknowledging, accepting, and better understanding who someone is at the core and embracing what makes them unique.

A. Before you schedule with me, schedule a free 15-20 min consultation call. This is the best way for us to get to know each other and decide if it makes sense to move forward. Here is what to expect:

You can ask me any specific questions you might have
If appropriate, I can also talk to your child and have a similar conversation where we get to know each other

It depends on the needs of the individual. Some people will attend several sessions to work on specific things that have come up for them. Others will attend therapy their entire life and see it as an essential practice. For most, 15-20 sessions are standard to seeing an improvement in your day to day life.

JOY Creative needs to be notified of any cancellations or rescheduling 48 hours in advance, otherwise the full session rate will be charged. Emergency's or illness will be considered.

A sliding scale is when a therapist offers a reduced rate to accommodate a client's financial needs. Everyone's finances look different and anyone who needs therapy deserves care. If finances are tight, let me know. We can discuss a reduced rate.

A. In some cases you may be eligible to use out-of-network insurance benefits. You will be responsible for paying for each session in full at time of appointment. If appropriate, I will provide a super bill each month that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.

A. Most insurance companies have you upload your monthly superbill online or on their mobile app. Once uploaded correctly, they will mail you a check with the reimbursed costs.
It’s always a good idea to call the number on the back of your health insurance card listed under Member Services. You can ask them the following questions:
Do I have out-of-network outpatient mental health coverage? Am I able to use these benefits for telehealth?
What is my out-of-network deductible?
How much of my deductible has been met this year?
Do I need a referral from an in-network provider to see someone out-of-network?
What percentage of outpatient psychotherapy sessions are covered per session?
How much will I be reimbursed for a 45 minute psychotherapy session (CPT code: 90834)?
How do I submit claim forms for reimbursement?
How long does it take for me to receive reimbursement?
